"Fortified" moly greases commonly available

I bougt some generic ep moly grease to do spline lube and realized many guys are buying expensive tubes online. I presume that is so you have a known moly percentage instead of unknown?

I am expecting its recommended i return this since its a unknown amount of moly fortification. I checked several auto parts stores.

If you're going to be regularly replacing it, IMO it's fine (it's not as if the splines had -any- lube from the factory on a lot of the 750's). However, the Moly 60 specified is designed to be able to sit on the splines and last for years without liquifying and coming off. I wouldn't sweat it, but then again, I also chose to get the more expensive stuff so maybe I'm being hypocritical.

pretty much what I was gonna say..

however, I was gonna say it like this:

"Any lube on the splines is better than NO lube, which results in powdered rust colored metal"

i know the Honda 60 is what everyone recommends here. however, i was unable to find it. i did find a Locktite Moly Paste on Amazon. it was $24 i think. i seem to recall that the bottle said it was 65% moly and it had pretty good reviews.

of course if you are going to replace it more than every 10,000 miles something that is only 30% is going to be fine.

I used Valvoline synthetic blend grease. I couldn't find moly and figured that using Valvoline grease was better than leaving it all dry and rusty.

Don't take my word for it. I'm just a foolish newbie.
When in doubt, just know that I am only joking around.

I may use the cheap moly i have for now (Not sure how long i will keep bike assuming this venture does indeed go go well.. And lube job is much easier compared to rest of work happening haha)

The u joint and gear out of bevel were lubed! The final drive of course was dry with rust. :-( How bad does final drive look for wear? Useable?

Just in the nick of time, but ok. Flush all that dust out even if you have to use water, it acts just like sand.
