I can't think of anything except the spring clip (internal) being out of place, problem on the shift drum (internal) or you weren't going fast enough for the Positive Neutral Finder to let it go into 2nd, or the PNF is gummed up and stuck.

Below a certain slow speed or stopped, the PNF only allows neut. and 1st gear.

the spring clip and shift drum situation would require splitting the case right? it's just very confusing because before i replaced the stator it would shift fine , could it possibly be that the gear shift lever (peadal) is not positioned right? i'm just trying to think of anything that could be a stupid simple issue. i'm hoping that its just something along the lines of that

Does your shifter hit on the footpeg?if it's turned too high that might do it.wouldn't hurt to check

The spring clip in question would be under the hexagon cover rearward of the stator cover. It might require loosening and tilting the motor but then again may not. But I do have to agree that the problem may be the shift lever too high hitting the footpeg, the fact that it shifted before and goes between 1st and neutral tells me you shouldn't have to split the cases.

Hopefully, Doc nailed it.

Someone here did successfully work on the spring clip with just the cover off and working through the holes inside. But it must have been like rocket surgery.

Doc , i gotta hang my head in shame for a ridiculous mistake, it was the shifter was too high , just re adjusted the shift lever down a couple notches and raised it up on the center kick stand went through all the gears like a champ, gonna take it out for a road test just as soon as i can get a brak in the rain. Cant believe it was something so small, but i got it took care of , now if i can get through the rest of the weekend in one piece i'll be doing great. Thanks again Guys for all the help.
