Foot Clutch Lever won't engage, stuck in neutral

Hi All,

So the other day I rode up to a stop light and downshifted trying to get to first, however, it got stuck in neutral. Now the clutch lever (foot) does not engage anything and can swing back and forth (it is still spring operated). Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem, or what is causing it?

I'm in Syracuse at the moment, with the bike stuck parked along the road. I will be leaving the area soon, so am not really up for a huge fix or anything. If anyone is looking to take the bike off my hands I would be willing to negotiate an offer with them.

Thanks,

Edit: The bike is from 1993, 10,000 miles, new ignition switch, new tires, been used for the last few summers as a bike to get to and from work

Sjaak

ok, 1st off, the left foot is the gear shift, not the clutch.

now on to what you have happening. it sounds like a broken shift rod, which will require pulling the engine and splitting the case halves to fix.

No it actually sounds more like a stuck shift pawl to me. You can actually check that out and hopefully unstick it right on the side of the road.
