Clutch Grab, general Question

hey fellas,

Picked up a 2001 with about 7k on the clock last week. Bike is running pretty well, got everything sorted. I know my way around bikes, and clutches (both mechanical and hydraulic).

Can anyone that has been on their Vulcan for a while tell me where in the clutch hand lever stroke the clutch should engage?

I had the bike in and out of the garage a few times today, and the hand lever was almost fully released before the clutch engaged. I would say in the last 15% of the lever stroke.

Thanks,

Len

Just got back from a ride, seems like my '03 starts to pull a little over halfway out. I don't have to pull the lever much to shift into 2nd smoothly.

Check to see if the lever down by the footpeg is lined up. The gap in the lever clamp lines up with a dot on the end of the shaft. Sometimes people will move the lever back a couple of splines to make up for a stretched cable. Free play at the hand lever should have enough room to slide a nickel in the gap without hitting a lot of tension.

It could mean the clutch is getting thin or the cable was stretched and someone moved the lever.

There's another cable adjustment at the side of the radiator.

my vn750 starts to engage clutch around 15 or 20 % , not much different than yours.

I checked how much the pressure plate moved when clutch fulled pulled in one day.. it moves an easy 1/4 inch, if not 3/8ths.

thanks gents.

must just be that am used to a different feel.

I might try the spline position and see if that changes anything.
