European transmission gears

I read in one of the posts here that the European Vulcans have a gear in the trans that has an extra tooth. One of the larger engine vulcans , (2000?), I read have a transfer gear that is different on European Models, and riders are ordering them from Canada as they are unavalable in USA , and swapping them out and getting more top end with less rpm.
Anybody ever tried finding exactly what the difference is on a vn750 ,(if any), between European and American Models with the transmissions? Can we order the European Gears and swap them out? The 2000 mod is external I think, being a transfer gear , not an internal trans gear? It would be nice if we could swap out one or more of the gears and get some higher speed with lower rpm.

US, Canadian, European, all the same gearing

the vn750 is a different bike than the other Vulcans (which may or may not share parts between the different models, of that I am not sure)

First off changing one tooth on ONE gear wouldn't fit unless you changed the size of the other gear it matches with. One "extra" tooth in the 5th gear also wouldn't make that big of a difference as far as top end goes.

All Vulcan 750 (and 700s) have the same gearing. That you "read" this somewhere also doesn't mean it's true. I'd have a hard time believing Kawasaki would make a gearing change just for one market....they haven't done this to any other bike so why just that model?
Sounds like BS.

But now if the bike is chain drive....it's not uncommon to see folks switch gears. I've done this on a few bikes. Can't do it on a shaft drive however. Belt drive? Yes, same principal. Altough you might need to add or remove a link from a chain, you'd have to buy a diffrent belt (maybe)

right KM, on chain and belt drives people swap out sprockets/pulleys all the time to change the final ratio. and sometimes a new belt or shorter/longer chain is required.

The VN2000 is NOT the same bike as a VN750..

not only different engine/transmission, they have different frames.

that also looks like they are changing the primary reduction gears (1st reduction between engine and trans), just from the quick glance I took of the link.

I think it's a change in the transfer gears... The set (yes two different gears) that connects the transmission to the front drive pulley. (Belt drive?)

So yes, not going to work on the 750, and like just changing a sprocket, this effects overall gearing.

You can do this on the Vulcan 750 by just installing a taller rear tire...

I'd rather have a quick bike than one with just a higher top speed...

yeah, I know completely different bike, was just wondering if anything similiar ever thought of on the vn750. there is a post on this forum somewhere that mentioned the extra tooth on European vn750, thats what got me thinking.

FYI 100 km/hr = 61 mph.

American vn750 gearing will give you about 14.5 mph per thousand rpms in 5th gear.
European models have one more tooth on one gear, and I do not recall if it makes the engine speed slightly higher or lower at a given road speed.

Therefore an American bike at 4,000 rpm will be travelling 58 mph (~95 km/hr)
At 5K rpms it will be ~ 72.5 mph (~119 km/hr)

I hope these numbers help you identify your engine speed from your road speed.

Hmm nice information thanks, my vn750 is an american model from 1992 so it should be an "A8" i will check the water pump, cooland level, easy to see and no need to remove the engine thanks for the tip

that was a post from bug
