Adding a gear? Swapping for a six speed

Does anyone know if there is a compatable 6 speed tranny to fit a 96 vn750? I've been working on this little project and I would like to give her some longer legs.

Wouldnt we all, as 5th is way too low, and 1st and second are too close....

Do a site search and see that we've been discussing it fer years.....there are a few options, none of em easy since its a shaft drive....if it were a chain or belt, we'd be home free....OR....find a machinist with a CNC machine to mill ya a new 5th.....

And then have it polished down, heat treated, cryoed.. and at the cost of designing, milling and hardening a higher 5th you might as well trade over to a different bike. I wish it was feasible.

The 750 screams for a 6th gear.

Don't know why Kawasaki never put one in.

If you want to cruise 75 or so the RPM's are pretty high.

On some So Cal freeways if you're not doing AT LEAST 75 you'll get run over!

Not really. In fact the engine likes to "scream".... You can use the same logic for any bike with 5 speeds. So it's running at a higher rpm? Why does everyone think that's a bad thing??

I second this. The engine runs great at higher rpms, and is designed for it.

Could we use a 6th gear for better MPG, etc? Sure. Not really required, though. The VN is my 'around town' bike and was never designed as a long distance touring machine.

My 86 has no issues going 90 down the so cal freeways, so I can't imagine you guys with newer ones having problems. :P

Also let me add that I rarely get over 3k RPMS and cruising at 60-65mph is at 2500rpms in fifth. That part I like. Got 60 Miles Per Gallon to bike week in Myrtle last week.
