Clutch aggravation

I have an issue. With the clutch lever fully pulled in, shifting to first, I get a slight jolt. Then with the clutch still pulled, my bike creeps ever so slowly. I tried the service manual procedure with no difference.

Adjusting the middle cable from one end to the other doesn't seem to have an effect. The procedure is as follows as I understand it:

Turn adjuster nut and locknut at the center of the cable down and away from the lever.

Check alignment of clutch bracket by turning unit until you can't easily turn it (gap lies under rib [can't get mine to center - it's either a hair to the left or right... Which should I set it at])

Turn adjuster back until no play is in the lever

Adjust lever locknut and adjuster to allow 2 to 3 mm play.

You probably need to move it one spline tighter. Here is what I do:

Using a crescent wrench turn the clutch bracket so you can slip the end of the cable out. Release slowly and then remove m6 retaining bolt and slide bracket off. Put it back on one spline further clockwise than it was (mark with grease pencil before removing). Install bolt, slip cable in and adjust lever play.

Repeat as necessary to get rid of the creeping forward. You might want to look at the clutch spring too...

When moving the bracket in the direction you mention... Will the gap be moving forward or backwards? I imagine forward.

Yes..this is what I had to do when I put my engine back in after replacing the balance dampers. Even with the clutch adjusted correctly, the rear tire will still spin while in gear, even with the clutch pulled, when on the center stand. But when you sit on it it won't move any.

If you didn't realize that you might spend a couple of hours trying to adjust it...ask me how I know.

My clutch would change depending on the weather and sometimes just the wind.

3 things come to mind that can cause rear wheel spin (when on center stand) when clutch is adjusted right.

1. we have wet clutchs.. that means that there is oil there... could just be parasitic drag from the oil.

2. warped friction or steel plates... including the pressure plate.

3. deposits on the plates that are causing drag (rubbing adjacent plate).

remember, the purpose of the springs in the clutch are to press all the plates together.. when you pull the lever you open the clutch, and compress the springs. while not a bad idea to replace them occasionally, they wont fix this kinda problem (however, while in there replacing springs you may unknowingly fix another problem that was causing the drag in the first place)

Could also be the wrong oil was used.supposed to use oil specific for wet clutch or an oil with no additives.but op's isn't slipping, so that's not the issue(caught my brain fart that time.lol)
