Gear Indicator..?

My old 79 Suzuki GS750 had a red light numbered gear indicator...so when u were in 1st...it displayed a number 1...and a 2...and so on.

How hard would it be to install one of these on a bike like a vulcan 750 or a 454ltd?
Was thinking it would be nice to install for my wifes bike

some of the aftermarket digital dash assemblies have that feature.

they take engine rpm and speedo input to calculate the gear your in. it of course needs to be calibrated after installation.

....most 70s Hondas had them too, but werent numbers, just lit dots in sequence...in gear was green I think and neutral was yellow....

Personally, I dont relly see the need on the VNs....you can usually tell by speed vs rpm....although I think we all often go for a higher gear than what we have....lol

Yeah i agree...i dont need it...but like i said it would be a good feature for the wife's bike and to help her learn to ride...just didnt know if one could be rigged up on a vn750 or 454ltd..they both have the same clusters and stuff...

The En is a 6 speed....the tach runs by cable off the engine, so would be tough....if it were electronic, I bet something could be retrofitted to work.
Id just like to know when Im in 5th, as I keep tryin to go into the next, lol......

Check the EN454 forum....mebbe them guys came up with something....

I guess you guys like lugging the engine in higher gears at low speeds....maybe you like to listen to your exhaust instead of the engine....lol

I tend to hit the higher RPM before shifting, but most are wary of going over 4 or 5K RPm when shifting for some reason.

The VN750 likes to be wound out...don't be afraid to hit the higher RPM's....then you will not feel the need to shift for the "extra gear".
