Reading spline lube sticky

Read through the aforementioned sticky. I understand it all, untill the end addition, to moly the hub to wheel gears. I looked at my hub and it shows to use 80 or 90 SAE gear oil, and seems to have a fill plug. Also I am replacing tires and I looked up the rear should be a 130/100x16. What is on it is a 150/100x15 I can understand changing the ratio, but does the difference in wheel diameter mean a aftermarket wheel? Yes 2 questions in one posting, new to this model.

Stock tire is a 150/90 X 15 , not sure where you got 16" from.

Not sure what addition you are talking about. But yes, the final drive uses gear oil...most use synthetic oil in there. Mobil One 75/120....whatever.

The gear oil is a separate process from moly of the spline. When you separate the wheel from the spline gear housing, you will see a gear. Just take a qtip and splotch moly on the teeth.

The gear oil thing you can do without taking anything off.

Just start taking things apart according to the versus and your eyes will open :-)

Aside from the gear oil, there are 3 places that need to be lubed with a moly PASTE. At the front ends of the drive shaft, where the U joint connects to the engine output shaft, at the rear of the shaft, where the coupler connects to the final drive gearcase input shaft, and the pinion splines on the BACK of the final drive gearcase, that engage with the rear wheel.

I am a motorcyclist, NOT a biker.

Using moly is pointless and a waste of moly paste. But, hey, you can do whatever makes you happy.

I used the moly on a few additional things as well including axle shafts, Speedo drive and the internals on the gas cap. It's a little messy, but useful. Add far as using a qtip to apply it to the splines, that may very well be good enough, but it wasn't fun getting the oversized tire back on & I'd just as soon not have to do it again for a long while. On the splines, I packed it around the gear and put a thin layer on the contact surfaces. Yes it was more than necessary and some excess got slung on the wheel during the first three rides after doing the work. Degreaser and rags are a lot cheaper than a final drive...
