Help

I'm dead on the road. I was riding fine, when all of a sudden the shifter went way higher then it normally does, then It would down shift, but not shift up. Now the shifter and rod it is attached to just spins. Is my transmission dead?

Thanks.

Ouch! Sounds like the either the bear-claw broke or the internal shaft broke. Hopefully others will chime in soon.

Good luck to ya.

Sorry to hear that. X2 on splitting the cases. If the shaft spins then something broke inside.

I am not able to pull the shaft out. When I pull the shaft out as far as it will go, the shaft no longer spins. Could it be that clip fell off again?

I can't spend the summer working on this thing, I'm going to bring it to the dealer byy house

The bike is in 1st gear, and seems to be staying there. Does this mean I just broke whatever connects the shifter shaft to the transmission, and the transmission is ok? I never heard anynoises or anything, it just stopped shifting and the shaft started spinning.

Does anyone else have any advice on what I should have replaced while they have the engine open??

Is this a real expensive job that's going to take lots of labor hours?

Thanks a lot. I'm so bummed its June and my bike is dead...

Big job for the stealership, you have to tear the engine down completely to get to the $6.89 tie rod that snapped. While in there, replace the dampners and water pump seals/bearing. I went as far as new piston rings and boring to clean up the cylinders. Was still fairly pricey doing the work myself but then I have more time than money.

Hey Wolfie. No, I didn't do a case split, I removed the engine and moved it 2" to replace the stator. I'm thinking that's a lot easier than an engine split. I'll have to look into that bike you're talking about. Thanks!!

I couldda sworn you had split cases....my bad....
As for the VN700 at Spechts...I was there today and raped it for much of the external electrics....the tank is "so so"...Cali tank, no dents, a lil rust....some kinda aftermarket rear shocks, forks look great, and have the air assist....if I had the room to store it, I'd have picked it myself....tires aint even that bad....instrument/gauge cluster looks great....
Grab it if you can, or Im gonna keep stealin parts off it, lol....I need the rear brake cable and mebbe the throttle cables...all I want....still even has the inner ears (housings) and the damned tunnel...its never been modded beside the shocks and the engine guard...
