I know I'm not a lifelong experienced rider - but I amaze myself at how many times I try to find the next gear - only to find I'm already in 5th

Well I did the same thing on the Vulcan. Never happened on my FJR.....

Why? Because it had a digital gear indicator readout. I always know what gear I am in. With the Vulcan, I guess I just lost track now and then. Or plain forgot. Who really bothers to count?

If you had a 6th you'd still find yourself up shifting for a seventh gear...

at least that makes me feel better

I always try to remember what RPM the bike is running at different speeds (then second guess it anyway )

So glad to know that what I have been doing all along is not an individual goof. Many a time I have been winding it out and went for 6th just to be surprised that I was done and it was time to just hold on and go. Having just one more would be nice but agree I would probably be looking for still another.

and always remember, "Ride until you rot!"
**Really not sure if the Big "C" is back right now
but having to face the fact that this is a lifetime routine
going forward. Five operations done and it still continues.

6th gear? I did that to my Vulcan but I have a chain and sprockets hehe. Still 5 gears but I dont get into 5th until higher speeds and it is nice on the highway. What is your guys final gear ratio in 5th anyway I think mine is 2.222 final drive ratio (18/40) 18 tooth front and 40 tooth rear. Teeth and sprockets - I know moving quite a bit backwards in maintenance from you lucky shaft drive guys.

I was either going to post the old 6th gear question, or start another oil thread.
