Question Bike Won't Stay Running

Hello all, so yesterday I was riding home from work when I stopped to fill up on gas. When I got back on the bike to start it ,it wouldn't start. The starter was spinning just like normal, the voltage on the battery was good, petcock was in the on position. I couldn't seem to get it started, finally I got it started and started to ride out of the parking lot when it stalled out on me at the stop sign. I had my clutch all the way in, so there was no reason for it to stall out. Again I couldn't get it to start so I pulled out of the way and waited for a jump thinking that may help. Even with a jump it wouldn't start. My mothers boyfriend came to see if he could find out what was wrong with it. He tinkered with it, had me put my hand over the end of the right exhaust while he cranked it and gave it throttle and it reluctantly started up but wouldn't idle. we pulled the choke in and it did nothing for the engine, as it didn't rev up like normal with a full choke. We got it home but I had to give it constant throttle or the rpms would drop so much it would just die. So what do yall think it could be and how would I go about fixing it. I was thinking that the carbs could be gunked up so its not getting enough gas at idle so it just dies out without throttle? Do you think I could just drain the carbs and fill them up with sea foam and let them sit over night then fire it up to clean them up? One thing I did notice when I got home was that there was coolant spilled over reservoir cover even though I hadn't touched it in a while and the cap was tight. Could that have anything to do with this issue?

Thank you, Kevin

Was thinking choke, but you said it had no effect. (be sure it's working though)

Verify spark on both cylinders and see if both are firing and also getting hot equally at the headpipe, not the muffler.

Could be one of the carbs plugged up and it's running on one cylinder. You have to raise the idle setting a lot to keep it idling on one cylinder. If both pilot jets are plugged, you'll have to be holding the throttle open quite a bit, maybe close to 1/4 throttle.

Could easily be a fuel flow problem from the petcock, stuck float, or clogged jet(s). Check fuel flow at hoses, drain carbs to see if there's fuel in there.

Remove and clean carbs. ..or.. Seafoam does help sometimes, but if the jet is clogged solid, it's not likely to soak loose.

The cooolant .. Was the coolant tank overfull? Was the temp gauge reading high? Fan running?

Coolant

The reservoir bottle was a little more full than the "full" line on the bottle and the fan was running. When I was riding it home for the gas station which was only about 2 miles from my house, the temp gauge wasn't any higher than what it was before this problem occurred. I did some reading up while at work today and I read somewhere that having air in the coolant system could be the culprit so when I got home I bled the coolant system and no anvil. However, I started the bike and it started up fine, just had to roll on the throttle at start up. I got it to idle around 1k rpms but only with a full choke, as soon as I let the choke out the rpms would lower to the point it would die. Being my first motorcycle, as well as my first anything with carburetor, I'm a little nervous about taking the carbs off and cleaning them. Should I get a rebuild kit or just clean them out? Is there any good videos or instructionals for doing this on our bikes?

Thank you and sorry for being so new about all of this
-Kevin

there is nob on the carb that sets or locks the throttle so when you open the choke it will idle

Smile Thank You guys

So late last night after I bled the coolant system, I decided to go to auto zone and pick up some sprayable carb cleaner. The associate said just spray some directly into the carb then start it up and let it idle. I did that with the choke fully on and it finally idled without giving it any manual throttle. Granted with full choke it idled at 1100 rpms. I messed with the idle adjustment screw while lowering the choke and and it ran just like it had before all this happened. I took it out for a spin and it ran great, no signs or feelings that it was going to stall when coming to a stop. I dumped half of a can of sea foam in my full tank of gas as well. I have a feeling that someone messed with the idle adjustment screw while I was at work or maybe I'm just paranoid! I will still probably blowback the carbs though. Anyways hopefully this means that I'm out of the woods for now! Thank you guys for all your help!

the idle screw should only effect the idle circuit. it should still rev, just won't idle.you had some dirt somewhere and the carb cleaner helped
