Ear Shave??....Coasters???

I have read a few posts regarding "ear shave" and "coasters"...mostly about what parts are needed and "how to". What I have not found is an explanation relative to "what the terms mean"and "why are people making the mods?". Can someone please explain?....thanks.

The "Earshave" os a two fold gain, first its a cosmetic change and gets rid of the "ears" or stock air boxes, secondly i t allows for a less restrictive air flow to the carbs gaining a little bit of performance in the acceleration and a few more MPH zt the top end.

"Coastering" stops the popping on deceleration by reducing the lean condition caused by access crank case ventilation back into the intake on Deceleration.

Both explanations can be found in the Vulcan Verses in more detail. If you haven't already read the verses its a good idea to read them all.
