Help with hooking up throttle cables

I'm having difficulties figuring out a way to hook the throttle cables back up to the carbs. The throttle is no problem, but the deceleration cable is tricky because it's tucked way back, can anyone give me some guidance? 98 VN 750

I'm assuming you're doing this with the carb assembly off the bike? If not, that's the only way I know to do it.

Ummmm no. The carb assemble is most definitely back on the bike and the boots to the cylinders are hooked back up so I can't see myself going through that again. I hooked the choke cable up before reinstalling carbs though.

Interesting. The manual makes it sound like this is possible, but they definitely have you reconnect them before carburetor installation when you're taking the carbs off and on, and I assume that's because it's so difficult to do with them in place. Good luck!

Probably not much help at this point but I work on a lot of different bikes. Inline 4's, 2's singles even Goldwings and in every instance you remove and install throttle cables with the carbs not installed. Sorry.

Well unless you removed the cables before you removed the carbs, you didn't follow the golden rule of assembly...." Install in the reverse order of removal"
So yeah, it's a "doh"...a big one I'm afraid....

I owned 3 GL1200s, 2-84's and an 85. I have helped other guys with their 1000 and 1100's. The 1200's did away with the split plenum so they are in my opinion easier and less complex. The carbs themselves are more modern/conventional CV design and syncing seems easier as the idle screws don't seem to move much once you set the screw and tighten the jam nut. But a carb is a carb to me. From Holley double pumpers and Carter down to weed eaters and everything in between.
