what did i screw up?

ok when i replaced the fuel tank from the 97 i noticed the petcock was cracked at the base. put the new yamaha petcock on it because it was handy and cheaper that the kawasaki unit. also the fuel inlet was replaced on the rear carb. bike can sit there off and with the fuel turned on no leaks anywhere, the float needles are working and shutting off flow. when starting the bike and using the choke the carbs flood very easy, and when it sits at idle speed fuel is coming out of the holes in the throat of the carbs and flooding the engine. as long as the engine is above 1200 rpms the engine will take the fuel with no problem. these are the carbs that were on the bike and did not have any issues prior to this.

sounds like the carb floats are stuck or the needle has something in there preventing then from sealing.....possibly crud from the tank fouled them.

Try the blowback method.

May be a piece of rubber from the fuel hoses when they were pushed back on.

thanks guys, yep you guys nailed it. i found minute rubber and brass pieces in both float bowls. tore everything down this morning and she is running like a bitch in heat now. gonna finish putting her back together and ride. as of noon it was 50 degrees.
i confirmed that it has 142/42 jets in it. im thinking of rebuilding the other carbs i have with 138 or 140 in it and see how she runs.

Yup, hoses can get shaved when pushing them onto the barbs. It's worse if the hose fits tight or is getting soft. Have seen it in a lot of carbs with rubber fuel lines.

I don't jam them on anymore, but try to use a counter-clockwise swirl with the hose and ease it on in.

tore the stock 97 750 carbs down, 132 and 38 jets. getting a list of things to order so ill have a set ready to go.
the tent was a roadside find. looks to be a 5x10 or 6x12. just need stakes. so there will be another tent for strange days

i switched the rubber lines for the yellow neoprene lines. hopefully that cures the broken down rubber

I like the color combo. Might be changing mine when I find a tank, that's one of my choices.

Know what windshield that is?

The more rubber hoses get r&r. the worse they are for dropping clingons. Should be good now.

Does the tent ride with you? Cool ... wish I could still sleep on the ground, lol.
