boot issue maybe

Can the carb boot have a leak in it and it mimic the sound of a ticking. I hav adjusted both cam chains and checked everything else out and can't find the click. It makes me think something in the carb is doing this because just before the clicking occurred my rpm's jump up to around 4k just sitting still.

An older petcock can do that! Put your ear against the tank.

To fix it I added a T in the vacuum line, and used the second vacuum port (that had been capped off). This kept vacuum constant so no tick.

The air valve also makes a ticking sound. Disconnect the vacuum line going to it and see if the ticking stops.
