Has anyone tried this external fuel tank on a VN750?

This looks like it would take care of my fuel needs. Has anyone here tried, or knows of anyone that has used one? I'm sick of filling up every couple of days, and everyone stares at me when I'm measuring out my graduated cylinder of Sea Foam. It looks like it would give us a total of 8 gallons of fuel. I'm getting 40 mpg, so I could get close to 320 miles on a fill!!

No need to do that. I just use the "Glug-glug-glug, looks good" method.
Too much wont hurt and anything is better than nothing.

As for the extra tank, there are several who've done it. Don't recall who offhand though.
But remember, our fuel is gravity fed, but it looks like the one you linked to should work.

Yeah, but I'm a Chemical Process Operator, and I'd like to at least look like I know what I'm doing... But folks look at me like they should call Homeland Security... ;-)

Did you look at the mounting hardware? How do you think this would match up with our bikes? It says that it's universal, but I've been burned by that statement before. It, of coarse, would block the tool kit behind the backrest. And I don't have a luggage rack. What kind of modifications would I need to make to make it fit? If I wanted a Pro to install it, where should I take it? etc...

I want to get one but would only use it when I ride for LONG distances. Aside from that I don't have a problem gassing up when it needs gassing up. Ya gotta when ya gotta.
An extra tank would be quite nice for peace of mind when riding cross-country for those long stretches without a gas station. But for daily riding I consider them an extra fire hazard, extra weight to carry around, and am curious as to how much of a shift in the center of gravity it would cause.
I suppose the deciding factor would be how much distance you ride on a regular basis. It may be more practical for you, in your particular use of the bike, to utilize one. If so then press on and let us all know how you like it!
Regardless, they're a nice option to have.

look at tourtank.com

They have a baffle welded in the middle of the tank to keep the gas from sloshing around too much.

Also looks at fuel cells at summitracing.com
they sell some black plastic ones with that fuel foam in them that eliminates 90% of the sloshing around from what someone told me... and the fuel foam doesn't take up much of the space for gasoline.

that would be 27 lbs. of gas plus the weight of the tank, bracket & hardware, i would guess around 10-15 lbs. so your looking at around 40 lbs. of weight added to the top rear. i would think some mods would be needed to fit the vn750 but i could be wrong

I travel 100 miles round trip to & from work everyday and yes filling up EVERY DAY is a pain in the [email protected]@.

A 100 mile daily commute would make an external tank a nice addition for sure. I'm spoiled in that I live 3.1 miles from where I work.
As "dutter" has already figured out the weights for a given tank size, if that would work for you then it's a good idea. Like I said earlier, press on and let us know how it works out. I really would like the addition for long distance rides. Your everyday experience would be a valuable thing to hear about.
We've got a small handfull of people here at work that commute 100 miles ONE WAY but they don't ride bikes. Imagine their fuel woes!
