Float direction

I made a rookie mistake. As I was taking out the old fuel gauge float from the tank I thought neat and didn't take note of the direction. the meter was rusted and gunked up.

Any help would be appreciated.

The tank is laying face down and the float gets inserted to the left face down or right. Any help would be appreciated.
sh**z, I'm schizophrenic. I looked it up in the manual. With the tank flipped the float rests on the side of the Petkok (right side).

Good luck working in your bike Mike....

geeze, I wanna say it will only actually fit properly one way (other way it will hit the tank?). either way, I believe the float is towards the front of the tank when installed. I think it lives on opposite side of tank that the petcock sticks up into.

The float travels back and to the right (the smaller side). The tell is from the pictures in the repair manual 277 (Clymer)which clearly show the wire on the side of the Petkok. This puts the float on the
opposite side you are referring to. You're solution makes sense if you're looking for the most room.

I'm sure this subject has been beaten to death but....After pulling the petkok, I took notice of the filter on the end of it. I'm questioning keeping the external filter on the bike. Any thoughts?
