Ear shave problem

Ok, I shaved my ears about a year ago. The bike ran fine for a while then I got deployed. Now I'm having issues with the carbs. In low gears I'm fine. When I'm at about 40 mph in fifth gear, at low to low/mid throttle, I get a loss of power and a lot of backfiring. I can just crank the throttle and it goes away. I have two size larger jets in both front and rear. I'm curious if it's the wind blowing into the rear carb making it go lean. Could the carbs being out of synch do this?

it just sounds like it needs a good cleaning to me. Try to spray some gumout up the drain holes of the carbs and screw the screw back in and let it set for 10 mins then drain. You may have to do that a few times but it should help. Then run seafoam in the fuel to get the rest.

If it sat for any length of time that will be the prob. Unless you messed with the sync screws then you should be ok for that part.

May or may not be the issue... but where's your vent line?

My bike did exactly the same thing post shave when I had the vent line in the wrong place... I need to figure out a better place to route the line, but for now I just pulled the filter I'd put on it and have the T open - no issues since (what was supposed to be a on the side of the road quick fix/ see if that was the issue has lasted for a few thou miles...)

Yeah, I think it might also be the vent hose. I have it running straight back, but it still seems to get too much air

There's another thread in here somewhere from someone who found the vent line in a position to catch a "gulp" of air and he noticed a power drop too. Sounds like it might be similar...

I think I fixed the problem. I moved the vent hose to another location and it worked fine in a high wind situation today.

Vent tube needs to be in a still area if possible. If it points back and gets enough air, it causes a vacuum on the tube, this will starve the carbs for fuel. If you point it forward and enough airs gets in, it will flood the carbs.

That's why the "T" spot is good, it is a calm area.
