How to Remove caps off carbs?

My air fuel set screws are covered with caps that are inside the port walls. What is the best way to remove these so I can adjust the air/fuel mixture for my new pipes?

They are made of lead about 1/8 in. thick. I use an awl and worked a hole in them and pried them off. It was a bit harder than I expected. There is a little space between the needle and the plug.
