Ear Shave purchase help

Doing the ear shave. is there any problems with the ear shave kit from Sherms? They could not tell me what jet sizes where in the kit (the #s were covered by stickers). They also said needles in kit set to 3rd notch (seems to me everybody on this sight uses stock needles with none - 2 shim). Next is this 140/142 and 40/42 rule is this with stock exhaust or not. I have exhaust that is resembles a h/d stk dual exh (not connected to each other). Help me. I own probably the worst 2 Jap carbuerated nightmares in the world. 1976 XS 650 Yamaha and 1992 Kawasaki vn750. Tanks Semmedog Peoria IL.

First,I'd go with the stock needles and work from there; some have had good luck with the notched needles, and some haven't. To me they're a PITA.

Stock exhaust or not doesn't matter on jet selection...
