Dumb Reed Vavle Question

I know this sounds funny but I don't know if I'm looking at the right spot. I see a hose that comes to eah side of the head. And this connection bolts to the side of each head with 2 bolts. Is this where I want to take the hose off and install the marble. Also if I wanted to make a plate is it just a matter of taking a piece of metal and cutting it to fit or is their something speacil about it.
