kawasaki vn750 won't stay running

I bought an 88 vn750, got the bike to start @ half choke runs for about a minute, then dies have to drain the bowls before it starts again, this bike has pods instead of air box, I don't know if the p/o rejetted the carbs, but he installed V&H pipes, I readjusted the air/fuel mixture screws, could someone please help me get this thing started or tell me to take it out to the forty and shoot it ? thank you.

I would guess it is flooding.

Get it to start again, turn the petcock off. See if it runs longer.

The fact the bowls need to be drained before restarting makes me also think flooding.

Thanx every one !!!!!!!!!

Everyone thank you for your help, update I tried all these suggestions and got the bike to start and idle by its self, it sounds a little rough and I don't know if the cam chain in the front cylinder is loose or what, but there is a weird sound like a clanking, the p/o has Vance & Hine pipes installed, but don't know if the carbs were re-jetted, could this cause a problem ? I don't know
