Guys and Gals
I know there are numerous threads about popping in the exhaust over run but has anybody got an absoulte cure. My ride has Jardine fish tail exhaust fitted, no centre/muffler/silencer. I have tried the air screw no different. It doesnt back fire as such(loud bang) and all the homeis in gas station hitting the deck, itd pop pop cough cough fart ? !! getting realy annoying.

Coughing farting & spitting.....

Yeah, but what's the bike doing??

What you mean by over run? Did you try marbling/coastering?

With a odd exhaust you might have a jetting issue. The bike should only "pop" when de-accelerating...

The coasting enrichers, cutoff valves, are on the sides of the carbs behind the circular plate with two screws. I agree, they are probably not functioning.

Seen at 4:30 in this excellent video by Roach. Don't miss his other videos and part two of this carb rebuild as well.

edit Also, see the enricher starting at #14025 in this diagram:

I'm going to disable the coasting enrichers on mine to see if I can get it to pop enough. She popped really nice when I first started riding, then it just cleared up on it's own. (stock pipes) hahaha

Reed valves in GB you'd probably blow through it in an orchestra !! If it anything to do with emissions then I doubt Euro spec VN will have them

My bike was/is an American import, so in the box of bits was all the emissions junk. Michael, is your bike a UK bike or an import? you can tell by the frame number if nothing else. The overrun enrichening device is a small dome screwed one on each side of the carbs, on the left side one of the screws also holds the slow running adjuster. There is a strong spring under the dome so be careful. the rubber diaphragm needs to be intact and there is also a small o-ring to look out for. The diaphragm is attached to a plunger that should slide under vacuum power, this is what sticks, I cleaned mine with some scotchbright. The purpose of all this is to feed a rich mixture on the overrun.

One can never have too many alternative forms of transport.
