Carb vent placement

Carb vent hose leaks gas if placed in ear slot. Works fine if placed higher, near bottom of gas tank. cut 45 angle on it. Whats happening? Engine runs fine after cleaning carbs except for this. thanks.

Did you get the previous petcock issue straightened out? (fuel flowing through, with no vacuum applied)
