POOGS symptoms

Hey all! I've got POOGS. I've done the work through, cleaned everything up, even though it didn't appear to need cleaning. But I'm still having poogs at 1/3 tank. I open the cap and she runs fine, so there are still some definite venting issues.

The first time it happened I opened the cap and noticed that the seal that fits around the nipple on the cap was cracked and worn, practically falling off. When I did the POOGS remedy I glued a couple of small o-rings in there in an attempt to get a nice seal. I'm still getting POOGS, so here's my question. How tight of a seal needs to be on that nipple. I can blow on the vent hose and have some air escape when the cap is closed, not a lot, but I can still blow through it.

Second question, I did an earshave early this spring and ripped all of the evaporation junk--CA model. I have the right tank vent capped and the left vent open and strung down to the left and just behind the battery. Did I cap the correct vent?...left side when sitting on bike. Should I uncap the other side?

Any other ideas, questions, comments, concerns?

Lemme know! As always, you guys are awesome, if not for having read the POOGS write up months ago, I probably would have been calling a tow truck. Thanks!

Some of us remove the nipple o-ring.

I only understand what I don't understand.

Ok, maybe it's not the o ring, thanks for the quick reply. I need to correct my original post. From sitting on bike, I capped the right, and left the hose open the left. I'm starting to think I should just leave them both open. I'm at a half tank now, I'll open the other side in the morning and update.

What did you do with the vent hose coming from the right side breather box. That's the vent for the cockpit. If it ain't venting then fuel ain't flowing...........

The carb vent is zip tied up under the gas tank. Update, half tank on the way to work, if I'm going to get poogs it should happen sometime on the way home. I unplugged the right tank vent, so we'll see.

I am not sure on the CA model...but you can shoot come carb or brake cleaner into the vent hole under the cap hinge and see which of the lines it comes out at the base of the tank. that will tell you for sure which one (or both) should be vented.
