Carb question, rebuilding/mods

Hey, yall. Today I'll be finishing up my carbs, after I go play John Deere service dude for a while. I'm putting the needles and jets from my "fubarred" 750 carbs into my good set of 700 carbs. Everything is going smoothly. I've read that the diaphragm on the side of the carb is an enrichening valve that bumps up the fuel on decelleration. Is this true, and have any of yall tried to defeat it? From what I understand, it won't be needed when I regoat, and seems it would increase fuel economy.

So am I nuts?
