Problem Found

I have only had my 2005 for about 5 weeks. It has been running sluggish, not crisp like it should. I though maybe I would adjust the mix screws so I did. No change. I was getting ready for a ride and was wiping my front tire down and saw a crack in the sidewall. Ride was cancelled. While I was sitting there moping about missing the ride, I decided to give the bike a little love. I cranked it up and let it sit there and idle and tried to figure out what could cause it to run sluggish. My thoughts were maybe dirty carbs. I started moving things around and looked in at the rear head and saw the carb mount boot didn't have any clamps on it. I heard air sucking and couldn't figure out where. I moved the carb a little and the air leak changed pitch. No wonder it has been running rough. I would like to have a chat with the previous mechanic, and did he just throw away the clamps or what the heck. It's hard to get to, but you can't half a** this stuff and expect it to work. I cleaned the carbs while I had them off, not to bad inside, a little crusty. So now they are fresh and I am about ready to put them back on with some clamps on the intake boot. I bet it runs better.
