more carb trouble??

Hi all...I have had carbs on/off several times and DID found some blockages...cleaned that and now bike starts with choke on, no gas applied just by pushing start...Idles quite steady at 1050 +/-....MIXTURE AT 2 1/2 TURNS AS EVERYONE SEEMS TO SUGGEST. I let the bike run a while, and I can't take it off choke, even after a good ten minutes of idle time. It will stall. If I try to give it the gas, with the choke still engaged, it will rev a bit if I'm very careful........but tends to stall usually. It's a 86 vulcan 750, with only 10k miles on it, and it's being a brat someone please save my sanity....I know I'll get the answer from the group...you guys are the best....thanks photobuff4u (Earl)

Sounds like you are starving for fuel! The so called choke is actually an enrichment ( putting more fuel ), by backing off choke and it stalls sounds like you just lost fuel to keep it running. What happens when you get the rpm up to say 3k, can you back off the choke and it still runs? Also, have you adjusted your idle ? Black knob on left carb? A few people have the idle way off and the enrichment valves gives it enough fuel to keep it going!!! I would start with the idle adjustment knob!!!

Hi...thanks for your thoughts....If I try to bring up the rpms and back off on the choke it will stall. The idle control has several turns on it, and is engaged. The idle when choked and the idle control set where it is will give an idle speed of 1050+/- and is quite stabile. I have cleaned out carbs and checke3d all the air duct componants for leakage. The air fuel is set at 2 1/2 turns, but changing several times didn't improve this particular problem...I cleaned out venting on gas caps as there is about 1/2 tank of gas....thought of poogs, no changes......don't want to put bike on the road yet, as it is not reliable and I won't waste money to insure and put a plate on a bike not ready for the road....hope I'll get more answers....thanks again.....

I would check the float and needle valve. You said you cleaned the carbs so the jets shouldn't be a problem. You aren't getting enough fuel to the jets under load.

thanks...I guess I'll pull the carbs off for the fifth time ....this is getting so fustrating, don't have a measuring guage for fuel in the bowl....guess i'll just investigate to check for stuck componants...thanks again...wish me luck...

Check the float height before you remove the carbs by putting a clear tube on the bowl drain.
