Carb Hose Locations?

Hi All, I have a 1986 VN750 that i bought from my brother and it was sitting outside for 2 years... It wouldnt run initially when i got it from him. I replaced plugs, got new rear tire, broke down and cleaned carbs/jets. The bike seems to run ok now but will occasionally flood out.

I found this in an old post from '06 regarding the hoses from the carb:

"You should have a short hose from the petcock to the nipple on the left carb(no T fitting) the nipple on the right carb goes back to the emissions in front of the battery (unless it is coastered, then it can be plugged)
Between the carbs, there should be two vent lines that go to a T and from there go behind the right ear.
Hope that helps................"

My setup is like this but i dont have any hose running from the nipple on the right carb thats suppose to go to emissions it seems. Could this cause the bike to run rich? or cause it to flood?

Sorry for being a newb

Could be a float problem. A quick fix some times is to take the drain screw loose and fit a hose to the drane and shoot some air in the carb may fix the problem.

Is it a CAL bike???? The t-lines on the carb does not go to the right ear on a Cal bike. On the right carb that line goes under the seat to the "air baffle" set up, coming off reed valves.

@Romeo,

I don't think it's a CAL bike. I'll check again where the hose is going after work and keep you guys updated.

Thanks for the timely responses!

On that right carb, that is a vacume line, at the very least it should be plugged. Any vacume leak will affect the carbs. Have read that plugging that line is the "poor mans" way out of Coastering or Marbeling, making the reed valves uesless.

On the back of tank, where seats meet is there one vent tube or 2? A Cal bike has 2 lines!

So to my understanding:

There are 5 total hoses coming off of the carb?

1. the small short hose on left side that goes to center of petcock (vaccum?)
2. Fuel line, Left side of petcock
3. Fuel line, Right side of petcock
4. The 2 hoses from carb to T adapter then that hose runs to right Air filter (cut end at an angle to avoid bottoming out)
5. a small hose on the right side of carb (another vaccum? can be plugged?)

2 vent tubes that connect to base of gas tank right under front of seat.
