Petcock Rebuild - Freeflows?

I've just rebuilt my petcock on my '93 using the rebuild kit. After replacing the o-rings and vacuum diaphram the peocock free flows. I unassembled and reassembled and still have the same problem. I also check the spring and it's in place.

Any ideas?

This happened to me too. Make sure the spring (round one, not the vacuum side one) is on the right side of the lever. Its suppose to go right behind the outer plate that reads On,Off, Res. There is a schematic on page 2-27 of the TOC manual.

bigbluezuk, the spring is on the correct side according to the diagram. It seams that the spring on the diaphram side doesn't have enough force to close the o-ring seal.

In the off chance this will help:

Ace Hardware (at least the ones around here) have at least 100 different springs in stock from gram rates to tens of pounds and 3ft long.

Just a thought. If you order one it'll be probably $10 plus shipping and two weeks
