EAR Ideas

I've got one of those really cool ideas - I found this battery powered fan with LEDs on it that created different patterns when rotating. $4. I picked a couple of them up, in order to somehow put them on the ears. Last night, I gave them to my daughter, 'cause my idea would become a nightmare if I tried it. But, while I was at the same shop, I was looking at a belt buckle with a scrolling message. It was about 4" X 1.5" , took 512 characters, came in red or blue. The cost? $10 for the red, and attached to a leather belt. I really can't imagine a kid wearing a belt with a scrolling marquee. Turns out that other people have bought these for their goldwings, to put on the back.

So, along those lines - the scrolling thing and the fan thing, seems like there should be some sort of static circular or rectangular display made of LEDs that just displays random patterns. I know I've got a circuit that I can build from one of my 1980's electronics magazines, but it would cost more (and not be as pretty) as a pre-made device. Wouldn't that be a cool thing to put on your ears? Or am I just a nut?

Sound like an interesting idea, but be sure to check local laws regarding lights like these, as many aftermarket "show" type lights are not legal to use while riding.

There is also a scrolling name tag which looks to be a little smaller than the beltbuckle. Available in BLUE or RED .

I have seen others that scroll back & forth or from center out and probably a couple other variations, I think at Pep Boys or Autozone, someplace like that.

OOOOOH. Drool. Geek.com Wonder why I've never been there before? Cooool.

Actually, as I looked around and found different things, I think some of those illuminating wires in yellow or white would be cool. Following the fins in the ears - like a bunch of horizontal lines. Would be easy to do - just drill some holes in the cover and run the wires through. That should be legal.
