Going to 40 / 140 jets....How many shims on the needles???

Hey everyone, I am doing the upsize on the carb jets to 40 / 140. I am earshaving with UNI filters and I have V&H cruzers. I also have coastered the emissions. I have heard of 2 shims under the needles is the most common. I have also heard of 3 shims and 4 shims... I really only want to have these carbs out this time and get it right so I don't have to pull the carbs back off again. How many should I use? Thanks.

Niterider, is it safe to assume that the 40, 140 and 2 shims is good for a bike that is basically at sea level?? Just curious. I'm about to do that kind of work as well on my ride and I'm trying to assemble a list before finding a place for parts.
Thanks.

I don't think that is the best at sea level.
Ask Lance, he will know. He is the go to guy here on the forum.
