Gas gusher!

OK.. sooo… I rebuilt this parts bike (I think that phrase should be up there with ..”Hey watch this”).. I had a trans issue (fixed.. worn spines.. new drive shaft), turn signal issues (fixed.. electronic flasher relay after many hours of searching the wires), several busted bolts.. one of them in the gas tank holding the petcock on!(fixed with JB weld).. battery issues (AGM fixed that right up), Front brake issues(3 days of bleeding and refilling.. PITO).. got it running.. satisfied right!.. NOOOOOO.. I go to start it up this weekend…after running a tank of gas thru it with about a cup of Seafoam to try and clean the system…it cleaned it for sure… almost to well I guess… now I have a leak at the carbs.. well not exactly a leak.. more like gas is pouring out fast than it is being sucked from the tank!.. I swear I am about to insure this bike for 3 times what its worth and maybe drop a lit cig next to it!..I am having a hard time trying to figure out where the leak is.. I do have, on the left side, one of the plungers for the chock off of the cable connection and it looks to be down further than the right side.. as warm as it has been here in Oklahoma I do not need to use the choke so I wasn’t worried about it just yet.

Check your fuel lines to see if there is a crack or not on the fitting completely or the clamp isn't sealing it tight. Sometime while messing with the hoses on the petcock you could have pulled one off the carb a bit.

01' VN750
Jardine cross over exaust
Kyriakin grips and foot pegs
Modified seat and backrest

Kumho 758 165/80-15 CT rear Dunlop 404 110/90-19 front
Coastered and air/fuel screws at 2.5 turns

93' VN750 getting TLC
Decals and mirrors
Coastered and air/fuel screws at 2.5 turns
ACCTs to MCCTs
Degoated with Harley mufflers
Duro 110-90-19 front 150-90-15 rear
Pick-up coils at .020

Stuck float? Try tapping the carb bowl with a screwdriver handle.

I'm keepin' all the left over parts. I'm gonna use 'em to build another bike!

Thanks guys....I didnt even think of that... I will check those this evening...I do recall having issues trying to reconect the hoses to the petcock after I JB welded it to the tank...I hope its somthing that simple!

well the hoses are fine... was able to get a good look at where the leak may be coming from.. it apears to be coming from the top of the carb!.. from the diaphram area...coudl this be a stuck float?.. I really dont want to pull the carbs but its looking that way.. is there an Oring or gasket on the diaphram cover?

I spent the better part of this fine Oklahoma Sunday pulling the carbs!...got the carbs out and thought.. "What the hell.. that Air Plenam has got to go!"..wo with the help of my wifes big bread cutting knife and alot of bitchen....out came the plenem.. along with the all the crazy hoses .. so I will be ordering an Ear shave kit, coster kit and all new orings for the carbs... started cleaning the carbs (learning as I go.. cant get the screws out to get to the floats) but cleaned damn near everything else in or on the carbs...there was enough crap in there that I think I could have built a new set of carbs!.. anyone got a good idea for getting the screws out of the float bowls.. or am I going to have to use an easy out and get new screws?

Impact driver and penetrating fluid works wonders on sticky bolts. Don't put the carb body in a vise when you do this, might bend or break something.

they are philips head screws and are already stripped... getting a small easy out today.. im sure as dirty as the rest of the internal parts were, that the float bowls will be full of trash.

Can you get needle nose Vice Grips on them? That and penetrating fluid might do the trick.
