Fuel valve screw-up go, easy on "i'm new" :-)

I screwed up, went to go ride this evening, I warmed up the bike with the fuel valve closed, it stalled in my driveway and now it won't start.

I'm new to this but I'm guessing what happens is the motor burns up the fuel in the carbs and when they don't fill from the tank it won't run? I then left it sit for about a half hour, guessing that the carbs would fill after I flipped the petcock "on". But it still won't start... help!

The carbs are vacuum feed so try and close the choke and try it. If that doesn't work try putting it on reserve and do the same thing.

01' VN750

Sounds like you emptied the carb fuel bowls. Check to make sure you have fuel in your tank then turn the engine over a couple of times. The vacuum should eventually fill the bowls unless something is clogging it. Same thing would happen if you ran out of gas and had to switch to reserve.

or remove the vacume line between the petcock and the carb at the carb(this is the small diameter one in the middle) from the carb side and suck on it while the petcock is in the "on" position. After a few moments the fuel bowls should be full. Reattatch the vac. line and let her rip

Finally got it up and running just now, which is good because my inspection appointment is in an hour and a half. Turns out I drained the battery trying to start it with the carbs empty, so by the time there was fuel enough to start, there weren't enough amps in the battery to spark it! So I put her on a tender yesterday and this morning - pow! Starts right up! Thanks for the help guys!

They look big enough to inflate a horse. City Slickers should prolly stay away from them though. If its in the wrong hands someone could suck their whole bike into the syringe. (how you think they get those ships inside those little bottles?)
