Carb setting with de-baffled pipes

1995 vn750 with stock pipes de-baffled. Mixture screw turned 3 1/2 times to get bike to run good. I have light popping on decel as well. What can be done to make the bike ok without the back pressure missing from the mufflers? Am I not using a lot more fuel with the carb setting at 3 1/2 turns? Would different jets for the carb make a difference? I think replacing the stock mufflers is cost prohibitive for me. I just bought the bike 2 weeks ago and now I'm trying to fix it's ailments. Thanks.

Re-jetting would be the way to go with no baffles, I would. Also, you might shoot Lance a PM and pick his brain for the right size jet if you choose to take that path.

Hello. Were you able to get an answer to your question? I want to do something with my exhaust system, but I need more advise. Thanks
