Ear Shave= removing the air boxes on the bike and moving the air filters directly onto the carbs. There is a kit to do this but you have to rejet the carbs when you do this mod.

Coaster= Metal plates (usually chrome plated steel or polished aluminum) that cover the holes left open when removing the reed valve. This is a fairly simple and fairly cheap mod.

You may have also read about people doing the "marbling trick" which is just placing a marble or steel ball in the reed hoses that connect to the front and rear cylinder.

I'm still kinda new and don't know a lot of the technical stuff so someone else may chime in and be a little more detailed, but I think I summed up both pretty well.

Yep, what Dawgsfan said. Marbling or coastering is a pretty easy mod. Earshaving is a bit more involved but totally worth it, IMO. Lets you get at the carbs more easily in the future, improves the look of the bike AND the horsepower? How can you go wrong? Detailed step by step instructions are in the Vulcan verses and elsewhere on the web.

I really like the idea of getting rid of the air box above the engine as i'm trying to get engine out and that air box is in the way and also my bike seems to be running rich. my next question is what size do you rejet the carbs to. mines a 700 and its running 135 already which is bigger then the 750 i think
