Angry Bad Ma Kawi Lives up to her name

Howdy Vulcanites --

I dropped the scoot off a Mama Kawi's (Dealer) on Monday to rebuild the carbs. The estimate was $390 for parts and labor.

Bad Mama Kawi called me today to say that the exhaust has been radically modified. (I degoated & drilled baffles) So, the carbs will need to be jetted for a new estimate of $620. Without rejetting they said the bike will probably hesitate and not run right and they could not guarantee their work.

I said that rejetting is NOT necessary when the goat is removed or even when V&H pipies are installed. I told the service manager to please clean the carbs and leave them in stock condition. I will accept responsibility for any problems due to not rejetting.

I believe I'm right according to everything I've read on this forum. What do you folks think?

You're right. It's not needed at this point, don't let him take you there...

I also think you should grab your bike up before you lay out all that cash, and let us help you with the carbs, but that's just me.

Good luck with it and keep us posted. Some dealers are notorious for making things worse, or at least not any better.

I'm not familiar with any of your recent posts, do you feel pretty sure the carbs need to be removed and cleaned?

Sure hope they don't do something that will make their hesitating prediction come true! If so, you'll have a better idea of the reliability of the dealership!

I'm keepin' all the left over parts. I'm gonna use 'em to build another bike!

You did the right thing but now they have an out if the don't rebuild them properly.

Hi Lance, 750Doug, FliteControl, Hyper --

Thank goodness I was right about not needing rejetting! This shop did good work on my previous rides back in the day when I did absolutely no wrenching. I had more $ and less time. So, I've got my fingers crossed hoping for the best.

I should have Mr. Spock back tomorrow. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Hey Lance and fellow Vulcanites --

I got lucky on the carbs! Mama Kawi (Dealer) did a great job rebuilding the carbs. The bike runs awesome--idles smoothly on BOTH cylinders, warms up quickly, throttle is very responsive, quick acceleration, and sounds great!! The old removed parts are in the attached photo.

Are pilot fuel screws mentioned by the Tech the same thing as the Air/Fuel mixture screws? Does this mean once I marble I won't need to turn out the Air/Fuel screws any more?

Here's part of the Tech's write-up:

"Carbs were dirty. Jet chambers filled with debris. Soaked carbs and blew thru all circuits. All passageways and circuits are clean. I had to turn the pilot fuel screws out to 3.75 to get a good C.O. reading. Bike starts easily and runs good when warmed up. This bike will need to warm up for a little bit before it runs it's best. With the stock pilot jets it is just too lean when cold. Carb sync is spot on. I drained the tank and filled it with fresh fuel and stabilizer.":

Now I need to resolve the other MAJOR problem: melted RR/Stator connector. See my recent post under electrical: "Voltage = 12.5."
