Headlight

So all of my turn signals, brake lights, and etc work. I have power throughout my wiring harness... but my headlight wont turn on. I have replaced the headlight, and my reserve lighting box is jacked up (90% sure)... and I am looking to bypass it. Any ideas? I dont wanna hillbilly it and fry anything. But I cant find a replacement box that isnt on Ebay, and i dont want to waste the money on something that probably has the same problem mine does...

There's a recent post (in the past year) here about bypassing the RLU. It might be a sticky, posted by Thorn.

Googled it, first hit: https://www.vn750.com/forum/19-electr...ting-unit.html

Edit - Was never made a sticky I guess, should be. Stickies on the Electrical page almost need their own folder.

Try the Blue wire mod?

Is the stator charging?

Garage
X2 on the blue wire mod. Do that before anything else.
Does the high beam indicator come on when you switch to high beams?

Wiring Diagram + annotations * still undergoing revisions, but still more useful than the generic one. Let me know if you find mistakes or think something additional should be added

I tried the blue wire mod... but i also read somewhere that the headlight doesnt kick on until the engine is running, is this true?(have the carbs out, rebuilding them).. I was just going through everything and fixing odds and ends stuff while parts were on the way

Ha, yep. That's why I asked about the stator. Just turning the key on doesn't normally light the headlight.

One leg of the stator triggers the headlight relay in the junction box.

Without the Blue Wire mod, the headlight doesn't come on until the engine cranks enough to trigger the relay.

But when the relay eventually dies, the Blue Wire mod is what you need. I went ahead and did the mod when I replaced the stator and r/r.

Did the headlight work after the blue wire mod? If not, there's still a problem.
