Stator replacement

So I'm sure there's 40 other posts on this but I like to have a current place for me to get what I need so I just got a 1998 Vulcan 750 and the battery just won't stay charged and I check the 3 hello wires all of which I was getting number from my bolt meter when I had black to negative and touching the red to the yellow wires while the bike is off so does this mean the stator is grounding out there for bad?

If so what is a list of parts I will need and how hard is it to change I've seen people do the "tuxedo mod" with cover still on the bike is that ok to do I'm not looking to have a 15hr project but don't wanna spend 900$ so have a shop fix this I need help here folks anything

did you check your r&r?what about the connector to the r&r?sometimes they corrode or burn out.would you mind giving us an introduction in the newbie section? some have had luck with the tuxedo mod on the bike but I have also seen it go bad,as yo can get metal shavings in the motor.it's not that hard to pull the motor to do it right.

I have gone through about 3-4 stators in a week due to misc errors in my bike. The tux mod did not do well for me but it is s good idea to look at nonetheless. There are quite a few posts open for testing the stator and R/R.

Don't worry!!, It's just a bump in the road.

So I've been running a few tests and my stator is not grounding out but is only putting out
1100rpm 20vac
3000rpm 47vac
5000rpm 69vac

So would this mean I have a good stator my battery with the bike off is at 12.5v and at idle is only reading 12v at 3000rpm it reads 12.45v then after I shut the bike down and check the battery it reads 12.5v
It never gets to the 13-15v every one talks about

Sounds like your stator is in good enough shape, but your charging is not good enough. This would likely mean that your R/R is dead or very close to dying. You would do well to replace your R/R or upgrade to a MOSFET/Series style while you're at it.

Earshave+Rejet (38/135) – NGK Iridiums – MCCT Conversion – Slipstreamer S03 Windshield – Custom Extended Backrest – Custom Highway Bars – MOSFET R/R – LED Underglow – Volt+USB In-Dash – Two-Wire & Blue-Wire Mod – Satin Black Engine Paint – Dampers Parts - Jets: Main=99101-393(#132 stock)/Pilot=n424-22 Pilot(#38 stock)
