voltmeter readings

hello all, i picked up a new voltmeter like the one NITERIDER has. got it all hooked up and had to go for a ride to check it out. 64 deg. windy as he** 15-30 mph wind.

ok before start it reads 12.4 volts
after start 12.6
after warm up 12.8
from take off going through gears up to 55-60 mph readings at 13.8-13.9
at stop light idleing 12.8
on freeway 70-75 it drops to 13.6-13.7
on hard take off it jumps from 12.8 to 14.2 then settles back at 13.8-13.9

my question is, for the ones that has digital meters, are these readings good.
thanks all and have a merry christmas.

I don't have a digital meter hooked up to my bike, but your numbers seem good to me.

You get better readings at idle than I do. I get 11.? at idle at 700 rpms. Yes they are good readings.

From everything I have read, they sound very good to me.

One question for you. Are the reading directly off the battery or from another circuit with a load in it. If it is the later, your reading could be on the order of a half volt lower than a direct battery reading IIRC. That would then take your peak voltage up to 14.7 volts, which most sources indicate is about the maximum we can expect from this charging system.

Congrats on a successful instal and a healthy charging system. May the wind always be at your back.<BG>
