testing elct. things

hi everyone I'm back and still working on the same chrging problem since MAY!

couple questions. first is there a way to test the JB without crackin open the black bastard.
second can someone tell me how to test the R/R? and don't send me the electrosport pdf I have that and it confuses the hell outta me seeing its not Vulcan specific.. when I test the blades on both my R/Rs (my old one AND one someone here sent me that I still owe money for) I get the same results. testing numbers match except the blade the white wire hooks up to. that shows nothing. if I can find the testing I can be more specific what nothing is. but my charging system only puts out 12.7v at high RPMs. stator checks out. ohms are alright and the VAC is 48 at each wire at 5000 rpms.

alright I realized what I was trying to get across... when testing the R/R when I test the battery blade of the R/R it reads infinity an ANY combination.

Go to this http://www.tocmanufacturing.com/File...nd%20Parts.pdf link and download shop manual.

VERY BIG file, forget about it on dialup, 119M. Page 15-18 will tell you how to test the VN700/750 R/R.

Make sure you test the three stator leads to engine case. Should be infinite resistance. Check on hot and cold engine. Some stators will only short to ground when hot.

If your R/R passes all tests and stator is not shorting to ground, time to check all of the wires that carry high current, the battery ground wire, etc.

You have confirmed that you have a good battery? You can't charge a bad one.

hey thanks for the help there I will check that stuff out later. oh and to answer your question I checked the battery by buying a new one..lol.. the stator resistance is infinity on all 3 wires by the way also. I did all my tests on it to rule out that expensive time consuming repair.

hey how is that meanstreak anyways? was thinking of selling my vn750 and using the money on a down payment on a meanstreak. hate to give up the 750 seeing it has all the customizing I want all ready done to it besides the lowering brackets in which I'm working on. and I hate to give up that oh sp comfortable mustang seat. haha

I believe that would be Crobins365, I remember she offered you one anyway.

Did you do this test on a hot and cold engine, as suggested above? As he stated, some short when hot.
