Strange electrical occurrence

I had strange electrical occurrence with my vn when I first got it. I was not involved with this site at the time but figured I pass it on now. Me and the girl went to a bike night on the vn. We left when it was dark & winding down. We were about 6 miles into our 8 mile trip back home when the cops pulled me over. I told the girl nothing to worry about I was obeying all the traffic laws. I shut the bike down and asked the officer if there was a problem, he said your tail light is out & your rear blinkers were not working. I was surprised, I turned the key & they worked fine. I got back to the house and started looking into it. I was fooling around & tried to simulate what happened on the ride home. I noticed that when you turn the key to the spot where it falls into the run position you can turn it back counterclockwise slightly and the bike will start, the front lights will come on but the brake light dose not. Anymore I am aware of this and make sure the key is in the notch. Has this ever happened to anyone before? I was thinking I may have a small glitch in my ignition system but would hate to see anyone get rear-ended if this is a problem.

Thanks for the heads up, dutter. I'm going to check mine today. Will let you know if I can reproduce the same problem.

i actually talked to the PO afterwards and he said that it happened to him once.
