Electrical Issue?

I have a 1995 Kawasaki Vulcan 750. I took it out this morning, starting a running fine until suddenly the tachometer when out as well as all the lights on the panel. The bike started running like crap too - couldn't get over 2k rpms and engine was very rough. When I got back, the bike idled fine, shuts off, and starts right back up like normal. And the turn signals work. All seems fine when I turn the key to on, except that rpms don't show, lights don't come on the panel and the bike barely goes. The lights on the panel came back on when I moved the handle bars to the right and turned back off when I moved it back. Just stopped doing that though.

I appreciate any help someone has to offer.

With anything like this check all wiring and grounds. If moving the bars made a difference it sounds like a short somewhere.

The tach runs off the from ignition coils. I am thinking you have a bad ground someplace.
I would check all your engine and frame grounds and the leads to the front ignition coil first.
Let us know what you find.

Loose connection to the negative on your battery probably. That's why you idle fine, not as much vibes.

If turning the handle bars has a direct affect on the condition then I would check under the next covers and right at the locking nub on the neck that locks the bars in the turned position when the key is turned all the way to the left. Many here have had some what similar issues and the electrical short is in that area. I had it myself.

but having to face the fact that this is a lifetime routine
going forward. Five operations done and it still continues.
