Bad Westco Battery!!!

I bought a brand new Westco Battery a little over a month ago, early May I think, and installed it. The other day my bike wouldn't start, and I was 12 miles from home. I did get it started after jumping it, but only made it a block before it conked out again. So I called a tow truck and had it towed to my local dealership. Got a call yesterday and the mechanic ifnformed me I had a bad battery. He said it wouldn't hold a charge. I couldn't believe it. This battery isn't even a month old. I sent Westco an email advising them of the problem, but haven't heard back yet. Anybody else experience this problem with a Westco battery?

Re: Bad Westco Battery!!!

That's very similar to what happened to me. I bought a WestCo battery a bit earlier in the year, maybe March. The battery will read 12.94V, but can't take any real load - not even enough current to get the starter to move.

Re: Bad Westco Battery!!!

The one question I have is what sort of charging system does your bike have, because I have an Electrex Stator & R/R and that system sucks. I just sent my regulator back to them because it will not charge over 13.8V ever and usually below 12.6V. When I reuse my old OEM R/R I get much better voltage readings above 14.3V. I'm hoping the one they replace will work better but I'm not holding my breath. My bike appeared to charge better in the afternoon sun but I found that it was the meter not dealing well with temp changes and always giving erratic readings in the heat. So if you have the original charging system than I would say the battery is defective, but otherwise who knows how long even a good battery works without much charge and always draining.
