She's a purring

It was nasty all weekend here, plus I forgot to pick up the parts Friday, so I did the coil relay mod this evening. She started with just a moment of spin, and only needed a few seconds of choke.

I still plan to rebuild the starter and do the pick up mod but it was nice to hear it run for a moment tonight.

To recap, I bought her a couple of weeks ago as a non running motorcycle, with the PO only knowing that it would only start when jumped even with a new battery. I promptly melted that new battery.

You don't need to rebuild the starter. It started.

Last night opening the padded envelope, then the box, then the zip lock baggy of starter parts gave me such a rush. For a brief moment I felt like Zeus, Thor, Cthulhu, and Papa Smurf all rolled into one, and nothing electrical nor mechanical was going to stand in my way! This didn't last long though, because as I raised the baggy over my head, arms stretched towards the heavens in triumph, the brrrrrrrap of my knuckles against the ceiling fan quickly deflated my elation.

But you're right, I probably won't touch it until it gives me problems. I ordered the solenoid and rebuild kit last week after the solenoid stuck closed and melted my battery terminal.

I purchased a starter rebuild kit also, ....completed my order obtaining free shipping . I have not yet needed to use it.

They are pretty solid. The contacts are over a half an inch thick so would take a while for them to wear down.
