jumping voltage

New stator new R/R voltage is jumping from 12-18v , ive cleaned all ground contacts. anything else I should be checking? Ive read something about checking the "sense" wire should I and where is it.

I also have an old bike (1986) and wires were pretty beaten up. The negative ground needed replacing and I originally replaced my R/R with a non-mosfet R/R. BUT it failed and pretty quickly too. I would go back and recheck your new parts and make sure you have correct readings. (i.e. The new parts are working.)
