R/R does it need to be grounded when relocated?

I am still dealing with non charging problems and trying to narrow down what the problem still is. Stator was replaced R/R was replaced. Waiting on a new battery cable coming in Wed. (it was kinda chewed up)
I have read lots of stuff on here some say yes some say no...I had this grand idea to relocate the R/R but it's not on the actual frame so if I need it grounded I will need to run a wire. I saw someone say something about the brown and white wire that it is the ground. So not sure what says all the electrical smarter than me people? Thanks!

im running an aftermarket mosfet type conversion, and no extra grounds there (grounds thru the wiring harness, directly to the battery).

stock one I believe is the same.

mounting either to a piece of metal is recommended, as the metal will act as additional heat sink for the unit

sorry I am not familiar with what that means, additional heat sink, does that mean it dispels some of the heat? Do they get really hot??

yes, they can get hot. if you notice the back side of it has a metal portion. that will get hot as well as the fins (probably not as hot, but heat is what kills these).

A Mosfet rectifier is grounded by running the black wire directly to the battery negative terminal, a direct ground. It also helps to run a ground wire from one of the mounting bolts to a frame ground.

Yes...I'd not bolt it to plastic. ....although I can't say for sure if it actually gets hot enough to melt it. But you don't need to ground it using the stock wiring.
Nor does it need to be attached to the (grounded) frame....you can hang it by its wiring harness where it's not touching anything and it will work fine.

It's body is its own "heat sink" and I doubt it tranfers much heat through its mounting bolts....

wont get any heat thru the bolts since they are insulated. the back of the mosfet has a metal portion that can help transfer heat to frame/mounting plate or whatever. but in general mosfet probably does not need any addition cooling.
