tail turn signals

I need to replace the rear signals and was wondering if a 10 watt set will suffice. I know the stock ones are 20 watts, maybe 25. The ones I am looking at are much smaller than stock but have the ability to be mounted nearly anywhere I want. I changed my seat out to a vn900 one and that means the original mountings for the stock turn signals will not be on the bike anymore, side bars and back rest will be removed. The link is to show how it looks now.

That setup looks good! where do you plan on mounting the blinkers?

I would suggest you get a set of LED ones which are DOT approved...they should be less wattage, yet be visible enough for safety.

also...if you are looking to toss out the stock rear blinkers, let me know, I would make an offer on them...PM me.

If I were to go with LED wouldn't I need to get a coversion kit? Sorry but the stock lights are no good. The rubber section on both are broken beyond fixing. I figured I would mount the new ones in or near where the stock ones would be.

only conversion (other than custom mounting) is an EP34 (I believe) electronic flasher, plug and play for our bikes.

That's the way to go, it's my understanding if you use load resistors, you lose the LED benefit of saving power. EP34 is the correct number.

Another mounting option, a simple bracket along with a chrome license plate frame ($5) and mount them there.

EP34 - definitely correct relay to make any blinkers work. It's under the seat, plugs right in. Took 20 seconds and it returned the blinkers to a normal tick

I wasn't planning on doing LEDs. It's good to know all that's needed is a relay. Would I need to do all light in LEDs for it to work? I'd still like someone to tell me if the 10 watt turn signals, not LED, would work well as replacements to the stock turn signals. I was looking for a cheap replacement, not throwing money away.

I cant help you on the 10watt light issue, but you do NOT have to have all led's for the ep34 to work. in fact, it will work with all incandescent bulbs as well, or a mix. its just an electronic relay as opposed to a bi-metallic strip flasher unit.

10 watt won't be as bright, but will function just the same.

I have a new set of cheap amber rear signals to get rid of, they are probably 10 watt, not sure. These have a straight shank, threaded mount with a nut, instead of keyed like stockers. I went with a smaller, different style (teardrop/cateye) of light, with running lights for the license plate mount .

edit: The lights I mentioned are very similar to these, if not identical: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Turn-Signal-...f5e8c5&vxp=mtr

LED and Relay are the way to go IMO.

I realize the stalks are damaged, but I am interested in the wiring and sockets, so let me know if you are willing to work something out with me.
