brake light on when steering column locked?

The other day I went to work, locked the steering column by turning the key all the way right, came back after work and my battery was run dead.
Checked, and when I lock it up like that, my brake light lights up and remains alit. Is this a problem that I (with little-to-no knowledge of this bikes electrical system setup) would be able to fix? Or is it some crazy problem that Ill need some electrical dude to help me out on?
Thanks yall for the help.

Sounds like you turned the key too far, as there's a "park" position on the key switch that leaves the tail light on...

If you're sure you didn't do this, it's possible your switch is bad.

To lock the steering you press the key in and turn it LEFT, counterclockwise. You went the wrong way. The handlebar has to be turned to the left also.

We have all been there and done that. An " idiot" is someone who doesn't ask questions to get the right answers to solve a problem.
